When and where did you first step into the ring?
First time stepping in the ring for a fight was Beer n’ Box.
What are you up to outside of the ring?
Outside of the ring, I watch tons of sparring videos and try to ask as many questions as possible so I can learn and pass the knowledge forward to newer fighters.
What did it feel like the first time you got punched in the face?
Getting punched in the face for the first time felt awesome; being an ex-football player meant doing a lot of hitting/tackling, so it was great to get that feeling back. Nothing compares to it.
What makes a good boxing coach?
A good boxing coach pays great attention to detail and puts their fighter front and center when it comes to training, diet, and mental well-being. It should always be about the fighter, as the coaches job is meant to guide and make sure everything is done correctly.
What’s your favorite combination?
My favorite combination is the good ol’ 1-2-3, but I like to go low to the body and mix it up.
What’s on your typical playlist?
A lot of old school Hip Hop with some modern pop/funk tunes.
What kind of drills can we expect from your class?
I focus on footwork, movement, balance, and agility. All of my drills challenge you to use your entire body rather than just the arms, as we know boxing is more than just punching. This is the key.
Who’s your favourite boxer or overall athlete?
I grew up watching Manny “Pac-Man” Pacquiao with my dad, so he’s the obvious choice. A very close second would be Triple G, and then Lomachenko. Above all, Mohammed Ali takes the throne.
How do you think boxing enhances your life or affects other areas of your life?
Boxing is great for many things, especially when it comes to day-to-day life. The movements allow you to feel confident, feel mobile, and strong! Boxing doesn’t need to be the barbaric sport that it seems, it can be done recreationally to improve your overall physical abilities in all aspects. Cardio and muscular strength are noticeable improvements, and your ability to move and engage with physical activities in your daily life increases.
