What are you up to outside of the ring?

I like to keep things moving outside of the ring. Winters I can be found curling or skiing. Summers I enjoy camping, kayaking and hiking. I'm also a runner and hope to run the Virtual Boston Marathon this fall.

How did it feel the first time you got punched in the face?

The first time I got punched in the face I cried. Who knew that boxing was an emotional sport. It takes a lot to step in the ring and take a swing at someone else, and know they are going to punch back. It was a little overwhelming.

What is your favourite part of training?

Pushing people to do more, to go harder, to go beyond what they thought they could. And the sweaty high fives at the end of the workout, everyone smiling through the pain.

What’s your favourite combination?

Anything that works in defensive moves and pulls you to the inside. Give me a few good uppercuts and a rear hook!

What’s on your typical playlist?

The typical playlist will be anything but typical, you'll hear rap, rock, alternative, dance, hip-hop (basically anything but country). Basically, anything that I like to play loud and sing along to.

What kind of drills can we expect from your class?

Drills in my class... is it even boxing without BURPEES?

How do you think boxing enhances your life?

While I've lived in NS for the last 18 years, I have no family close. Boxing has given me community, a place to belong, an extended family of sorts. Friendships grow well beyond the walls of the gym. That and one hell of a total body workout.
