Julie

Owner & Coach

When and where did you first step into the ring?

I was 18 years old and overflowing with energy (some things never change!) the first time I stepped into the ring in Montreal. The coaches let me spar with anyone, and laughed at how intense I was in the ring. I just couldn't help going for it! I like to think that I’m now more mature and in control, but it took a lot for me to get to this point. And at the end of the day,  I still go for it.

What are you up to outside of the ring?

I own a boxing studio and raise my two kids!

What did it feel like the first time you got punched in the face?

It was definitely a shock and I got offended! It made me come back with a revenge.

What makes a good boxing coach?

I think a good coach, and not only for boxing, is somebody that is able to motivate people and explain technique in a simple way. For boxing, a good coach can make punches and defense drills relevant for people even if they are never going to be facing an opponent in the ring.

What’s your favorite combination?

Double Jab Right

What’s on your typical playlist?

Hip-Hop

What kind of drills can we expect from your class?

I like longer interval drills, and I’m not a big fan of long breaks ;) I also like to do partner drills and working on the core.

Who’s your favourite boxer or overall athlete?

Rocky Balboa (somebody told me he isn't real once, but that's just crazy talk).

How do you think boxing enhances your life or affects other areas of your life?

Boxing makes me stronger physically but also gives me a lot of confidence when it comes to any situation that arises in my life. It is also a very social sport and it is great to have a strong community you know would support you at any time.
